Indian travel agents now ready to boycott destination Singapore

As the standoff continues between Indian travel agents and Singapore Airlines on the airline’s ‘zero commission’ policy, agent associations are reportedly ready to now boycott Singapore as a destination.
Several key travel agent associations are in talks with the Singapore Tourism Board this week, according to local media reports, and it is believed the substance of the talks surround a possible refusal by agents to sell travel to Singapore completely– not just on Singapore Airlines services.
If talks are not productive, Indian agents could boycott the destination as soon as the 30th of January.
Six major associations have already selected the day to promote their ‘Respect the Indian agent or Quit India’ campaign.
“All travel agents across the country will observe protest on Jan 30 against foreign airlines as they continue to deprive us of commission on their air ticket bookings. As of now, we are not booking their tickets,” said Rajii Rai, Travel Agents’ Association of India (TAAI) President.
So far the six associations of Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI), Association of Domestic Tour Operators in India (ADTOI), Enterprising Travel Association of India (ETAA), and of course TAAI, have boycotted several foreign carriers and are refusing to sell tickets until commissions are reinstated.
Singapore Airlines has felt the brunt of the boycott, but it has recently stated that it stands firm on its zero-commission policy.
Singapore Airlines this week announced a downgrading of capacity to the key Indian cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad
